FMovies, explained

What happened to FMovies?

FMovies was one of the most visited piracy sites in the world. On August 29, 2024, the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) announced that Vietnamese police in Hanoi had shut down FMovies and the related video host vidsrc.to, and arrested the operators. ACE reported that FMovies-linked domains drew more than 6.7 billion visits between January 2023 and June 2024.

Since then, dozens of sites have copied the FMovies name and layout. None of them are the original, none are licensed, and many exist mainly to push ads, fake "update your player" prompts and unwanted downloads. Read the full FMovies guide.

A better way to find what to watch

FFMovies keeps the part of FMovies people liked, a fast poster wall of new releases, and replaces the risky streams with clear answers. Every title page tells you:

  • Where it is right now: in theaters, for rent or purchase, or included with a subscription.
  • What comes next: our release-window strip shows when a film is expected to move from theaters to digital and streaming.
  • How to download it legally for flights and commutes, using the offline feature in the official app.

Prefer free? Our list of legal FMovies alternatives covers free, ad-supported services like Tubi, Pluto TV and The Roku Channel, plus library apps Kanopy and Hoopla.

Frequently asked questions

Is FMovies still working?

No. FMovies was shut down in August 2024 after an investigation by Vietnamese police and the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE). Sites using the FMovies name today are unofficial clones.

Is it safe to use FMovies clone sites?

Clone sites are unlicensed and commonly run aggressive pop-up ads, fake download buttons and redirects that can lead to malware or phishing pages. Using official services is the safer choice.

Does FFMovies stream movies?

FFMovies does not host or stream video. The Watch Now and Download buttons send you to official services such as Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV, Peacock and Crunchyroll.

Can I watch movies for free legally?

Yes. Tubi, Pluto TV, The Roku Channel, Kanopy and Hoopla offer free, legal movies and shows supported by ads or by your public library card.
